If you’ve just moved into your new house or apartment, or simply looking to give a room in your home a facelift, these are three affordable AND impactful ways to breathe life into your space!

Paint

The easiest, and probably cheapest way to refresh a room, or make a statement within your home is in selecting the right paint color for your walls or cabinetry. Whites and neutrals are all the rage right now to achieve the airy, coastal feel seen throughout Studio McGee’s designs. And there’s nothing wrong with a clean, neutral palette. It’s a very timeless look and easy to work with if you want to tie in accent colors through textiles and wall art. But there’s nothing wrong with a little color, either!

Julia Marcum of Chris Loves Julia takes a bold, and intentional approach to color. She takes a variety of things into consideration like the amount of natural and artificial lighting, the overall “vibe” of the room, and using similar tones throughout the home to create a cohesive look.

They did a mini kitchen renovation in their Idaho home, which was mostly paint and rearranging existing cabinetry to better maximize the space. Check out that transformation below and pay attention to what a major difference just the cabinetry and wall colors made alone. It’s huge!

Wallpaper

Wallpaper is another affordable way to make an impact in any room, and there are so many peel-and-stick options to choose from now, so you don’t have to fear getting stuck with something forever.

Nesting with Grace has a way of incorporating wallpaper accents throughout her homes in such a beautiful way. She’s also inspired many to take the wallpaper-plunge and has a great blog post with tons of examples on how to do this in your own home.

There are so many fun patterns available now in stores near you like Target Home Depot and Lowes. Can you even believe some of these peel-and-stick wallpaper designs at Target?! They’re stunning!

Wall Treatment

Ya’ll know I love a good wall treatment! We have shiplap, board and batten, and wainscoting throughout our home. I just love the way you can elevate a room with just a few pieces of wood, a nail gun and paint.

TIP: If you’re looking for a wall molding or board and batten tutorial, I’ve got you covered here and here.

Mallory Nikolaus is one of my major inspirations for beautiful wall treatments. She has a deeply rooted traditional style, with a grand Millennial flair. Check out this wall moulding in her living room, oof!

My friend, Rebekah, with Build it Thrifty is the queen of grid walls and has several tutorials on her Instagram on how to accomplish this. Again, these are a relatively easy way to add dimension to any room. And if you decide you want to change it out down the road, you can remove it without causing too much damage to your walls (if you’re light on the liquid nails).
